                        Essay on Cauvery calling:

‘Cauvery Calling’ is a plan initiated by the Isha Foundation, under the guidance of its creator Jaggi Vasudev. Cauvery Calling is a plan initiated by the Isha Foundation, under the guidance of its creator Jaggi Vasudev, to assist farmers in planting approximate 2.5 billion trees by way of agro-forestry. It intends to cover 1/3rd of the Cauvery basin with tree cover as a means of preserving the river. s. ‘Cauvery Calling is the first of its kind movement, establishing the paradigm for in what way India’s rivers – the nation’s lifelines, could be revitalized.

It will start the revitalization of the Cauvery River and change the lives of 85 million people. The easiest way to make Cauvery flow again is to plant trees. Cauvery Calling will help farmers to plant around 243 crore trees in the Cauvery basin by implementing agroforestry. This will significantly augment farmers’ wealth 5-fold in 5years, improve water retention in the Cauvery basin, fight climate change, and arrest the erosion of soil.

This will also become an established methodology to revitalize rivers and raise farmers’ income, therefore state govts. of India will begin executing this to revive their state rivers. Moreover, farmers will start transforming their agricultural practices since this method will raise their income. It will become a win-win situation.

Another solution is the replenishing of the soil. If we replenish the soil’s carbon content and nutrients, it will become fertile, absorb rainwater, and feed the Cauvery. This will revive the river ecosystem and also better the farmer’s economic situation. The cheapest and easiest way to replenish soil is to plant trees. In govt. land, native tree species could be planted. In private farmland, farmers can move to agroforestry - the practice of producing/raising conventional crops with timber trees and fruits in the same farm
