Swami Vivekananda was born on 18 January 1863 at the Shimla Rally in Calcutta under the name of Narendranath Dutt.

His father Vishwanath Dutt was a lawyer in the Calcutta High Court, and mother Bhuvaneshwari Devi was a housewife.
