On 3rd July 2017, the students of the science stream of grade 12 went on an educational field trip to the INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANIZATION(ISRO) Satellite Centre on Old Airport Road. The students were accompanied by two science faculty members - Mrs Jayanti Srivastava and Mrs. Vinni Thomas.
ISRO is amongst the largest government space agencies in the world. Its primary objective is to “harness space technology for national development, while pursuing space science research and planetary exploration.”
The trip commenced at around 9.30 am from school and the students reached ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC) at around 10.00 am. After several security checks and administrative formalities, the students were taken to a central building where they visited the space exhibition. Mr. Alok Shrivastava, Project Director ISRO, took them through a presentation that detailed the various missions that ISRO had undertaken. He also explained the importance of the application of various concepts of Physics and Mathematics that students have learnt in XI and XII. He further enlightened the students of the difference between NASA and ISRO.
Students were captivated when they were taken to see the actual construction of Chandrayaan II. The overall experience was riveting and stimulating. It helped all the students appreciate the complex working and tireless effort of the scientists who work to make each launch a success. The visit provided an insight to the quality of research happening in the area of space technology and the scope of electronics and communication engineering in India.
