Mahatma's Gandhi's numerous efforts to free India from British are commendable. There are a number of instances where one can get an idea about this, like that of the Dandi march from the River Sabarmati in Gujarat.

He tried to uplift the condition of each and every person through several movements like the Civil Disobedience Movement, the Champaran Movement, the Non Cooperation Movement, etc for people living under British rule and wanted to free them by spreading a  motto or slogan of non-violence to attain freedom.

Gandhiji was even associated very closely with Assam. During the 1926 Congress session, at a place called Pandu in Guwahati,Assam, people made sure that the whole pandal was made and decorated only by Khadi cloth, and they did not use a single british made good. This pleased Gandhiji very much who wanted Khadi to be popular everywhere in India.

The prominence and popularity of Khadi starts from this event only and Mahatma Gandhi later used it in his Ashram. Hence, he was connected to the roots of Assam.
