"Inertia" is that property of an object due to which the object resist any change in its state.
The Newton's first law of motion is also know as "law of inertia".
There are two types of inertia:-
1. Inertia of rest
2. Inertia of motion
For example:-
A person sitting inside a moving vehicle is in motion alongwith the vehicle. On suddenly applying brakes of a moving vehicle, the vehicle comes to a halt, the lower body of the person which is in contact with the seat comes to rest immediately while the upper body remains in motion due to inertia. Hence, the person sitting inside the vehicles bend forward.

INERTIA
Inertia is that property of a body due to which it opposes any change in its state of rest or state of motion .
This arises out of Newton's First Law of Motion that states --
"A body continues to be in its state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless an external unbalanced force is applied on it to change that state"
Inertia can be divided into 3 types :-
(i) Inertia of rest
(ii) Inertia of motion
(iii)Inertia of direction
-----------------------------------------------------------
INERTIA OF REST
It is the property of a body to oppose any change to its state.
Example ---> When a vehicle starts suddenly then the passengers inside the vehicle fall backward. The lower part of their body moves with the vehicle but the upper part is still in rest due to inertia of rest
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INERTIA OF MOTION
It is the property of a body to oppose any change in its state of uniform motion.
Example ---> When a vehicle stops suddenly then the passengers tend to fall forward.Their lower part of the body stops along with the vehicle but their upper part is still in motion due to inertia of motion.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INERTIA OF DIRECTION
It is the property of a body to oppose any change in any direction of motion.
Example ---> Water particles sticking to cycle fly off tangentially.
