Water plays an important role in seed germination. ... Quite obviously different seeds require different optimum temperatures. There are some seeds which require special requirements either lower or higher temperature between 5 to 40°C. Light or darkness: This can act as an environmental trigger.

Role of Water in seed germination:- It is considered as the most required need for seed germination. As in dormancy period generally embryo is having 10-15% water. The important works like growth and development is not possible in this less amount of water. So for active processes atleast 75-90% water availability is good for the plants.

Role of Oxygen in seed germination:- High amount of oxygen is required in processes like cell elongation, cell division ete. of the embryo. The energy which is used that comes from the oxidation process of organic substances that's the only reason for essential of oxygen in oxidation process.
