Dussehra Celebrations Factual Description
Dussehra is a colorful and vibrant festival; it is celebrated almost all across India in different forms. In south, east, and northeast Indian states it is celebrated as Durga Pooja.
In northern India it is celebrated to commemorate victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. Before Dussehra there are Navratras; the cities, towns, and villages hold fairs. Ramlila, the story of life of Lord Rama is staged at various places. Children go to watch it. People go to fairs. They buy toys and eat many delicacies.
This year Dussehra Festival celebrations were as vibrant and full of bustle as it usually is. The entire region was decorated like new bride. The schools were off for a week. Every day I went to the market with my parents to do shopping. In the evening we would go to see Ramlila. The festival culminated with the burning of effigies of Ravana, Kumbkaran, and Meghnath.
The First things that comes to mind when we hear the word Dussehra is Ravan Dehen. But there is a lot more that happens before that.
Sussehra Also known as Vijaydashmi is a Hindu Festival that is celebrated as a symbolism of the prevalence of good over evil.
As per Hindu mythology, on Dussehra Lord Rama Ended the Devilish Ravan’s life, freeing one and all from his tyranny and rescuing his beloved wife, Sita.
And as such this festival is celebrated with a lot of ecstasy all over India, and everywhere else where people of the Hindu faith reside.
In My locality, Dussehra is celebrated with equal enthusiasm with kids and elders alike.
The colony committee make sure that on Dussehra there is contribution for expenses, which is used for not only construction of our own small Ravan for the colony, but also the money is spent to organize a cleaning drive throughout the colony.
Once the cleaning is done, most of the people from the colony gather together at previously designated time to prepare the construction of our small cracker filled Ravan.
Everyone participates and once the construction is complete, all just go home and clean up and eagerly wait for the dark when the Ravan is lit by kids firing fire arrows at it.
This entire ceremony is concluded by everyone praying for each other’s well being and happiness.
