Features of black soil -

  • Black soil is also called as Black Cotton soil as its color is black and it is good for cotton cultivation.

  • Black soil is rich in calcium, potassium and magnesium but has poor nitrogen content.

  • Crops like cotton, tobacco, chilly, oil seeds, jowar, ragi and maize grow well in it.

  • Soil Texture: Black cotton soil (regur soil) is highly argillaceous i.e. clayey.

  • It is deep and impermeable and thus has high water retention capacity.
