Features of sclerenchyma are as follows:-

1. It provides mechanical support hence it is known as mechanical tissue.

2. Sclerenchyma is a dead tissue.

3. Term sclerenchyma was given by Mettenius.

4. Most of the cells in them are seen lignified, long, narrow & thick walled.

5. These cells become dead after maturity.

6. Due to the deposition of lignin many pits are found on the walls of sclerenchyma.

7. It is seen in monocot stems mostly in hypodermis.
