MOON

• The Moon is the only natural satellite and is the second brightest after the sun. The Moon orbits the Earth with an average speed of 3700 kn per hour and from 384,400 km. The Moon changes its appearances in eight distinct phases, and four of its phases occur about a week apart.

EARTH

• It is the only planet that has an atmosphere containing 21 percent oxygen. It is the only planet that has liquid water on its surface. It is the only planet in the solar system that has life. The Earth is the only inner planet (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) to have one large satellite, the Moon.

VENUS

• It is a terrestrial planet because it has a solid, rocky surface like other planets in the inner solar system. Astronomers have known Venus for thousands of years. The ancient Romans named it after their goddess Venus. Venus is the brightest thing in the night sky except for the Moon.
