The characteristics of retreating season are as mentioned below:

1. The retreat of monsoon takes place due to the migration of Sun towards the South and the withdrawal of the South-West monsoon.

2. A transition period is marked by the occurrence of tropical depressions and it causes tremendous loss of life and property.

3. The par of the winter rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh is caused by the retreating monsoons.

4. The storms in the Arabian sea though very rarely but occur between 12°N to 17°N in October and November.

5. The withdrawal of monsoon leads to clear cloudless sky, high temperatures and high humidity during the month of October. This, this sultry and oppressive weather is often referred to as ' October Heat ' .

retreat. By the beginning of October it

retrates completely from northernplains.

(3)these period is the period of transition from hot rainy season to cold winter season. It is marked by clear sky, moist

ground and high temperature giving birth to heat.

(4)low pressure trough shift to bay of Bengal. They give rise to cyclonic depressions which cause havoc on the eastern coasts especially the coasts of orrisa, andhra Pradesh and Tamil nadu with very strong storms and rains.. The super cyclone of 1999 will remain in the memories of millions of people for over, who lost their near and dear ones along with their properties.
