Five Examples, each of proper, improper and mixed fractions :

Proper Fractions :  

A fraction having numerator less than its denominator is called a proper

fraction.

For example,  ⅗, 10/13,  14/27, 7/16, 6/7 etc. are all proper fractions.

Improper Fractions :

A fraction having numerator greater than its denominator is called an improper fraction.

For example, 11/8, 25/12, 18/15, 37/32, 32/5 etc. are all improper fractions.

Mixed Fractions :

A combination of a whole number and a proper fraction is called a mixed fraction.

For example, 1⅓ , 4⅖ , 2¾ , 6⅖ , 2¼   etc. are all mixed fractions.

Here 1, 4,2,6 are whole numbers and ⅓,⅖, ¾,¼   are proper fractions.
