Concept

A rational number can be defined in mathematics as any number that can be represented by p/q. Where q ≠ 0. We can also say that any fraction falls into the category of rational numbers whose denominator and numerator are integers. The denominator is non-zero. When dividing a rational number (i.e. a fraction)  the result is in decimal form. This can be either a trailing decimal number or a repeating decimal number.

Given

We have given two numbers -2 and 2 .

Find

We are asked to determine the five rational numbers between the given numbers.

Solution

Converts the given number to an equal fraction by equating the denominators.

You can make the denominator the same by taking her LCM from the denominator or by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same integer.

Two numbers are given -2 and 2 .

Multiplying both denominator and numerator by 6, we get

\frac{-2\times6}{1\times6}=\frac{-12}{6}            and        \frac{2\times 6}{1\times 6} =\frac{12}{6}

Hence , thhe five rational numbers are \frac{-12}{6} ,\frac{-11}{6} ,\frac{-10}{6} ,\frac{-9}{6} ,

which on simplification gives \frac{-2}{1} , \frac{-11}{6} ,\frac{-5}{3} , \frac{-3}{2}.

Therefore, the five rational number between given numbers are \frac{-2}{1} , \frac{-11}{6} ,\frac{-5}{3} , \frac{-3}{2} .
