Villavar means archer in Tamil. The Pallava royal insignia was the Simha (lion) and Nandi (bull) which was changeable. Narashimavarman used the lion as his emblem and Nandivarman preferred the Nandi. Under the reign of Parameswaravarman was Khatvanga (Skull mace) added to Pallava emblem.
