- Travel in a vacuum with a speed of 3.0x108m/s.

- Do not require material medium for their propagation.

- Transverse in nature.

- Posses and transfer energy. The amount of energy possessed by an electromagnetic wave of frequency f  is expressed as E= hf, where h is Plank’s constant and is equal to 6.63x10-9Js.

- Carry no charge (not charged) and are not deflected by a magnetic or electric field
