Arteries:
The blood vessels which carry blood from the heart to various body organs are called arteries.
Arteries carry oxygenated blood.
These have thick elastic muscular walls
Valves are absent

Veins:
The blood vessels which carry blood from various body parts to heart are called veins.
Veins carry de oxygenated blood.
Veins have thin and non elastic walls
Valves are present to prevent the backward flow of blood.

Arteries:
1) It is thick walled blood vessel
2) It carries blood from heart to different parts of the body
3) It does not contain any valve.
4) All arteries except pulmonary artery carry oxygenated blood.
5) It can dilate or constrict depending on the regulatory requirements of the body

Veins:
1) It is thin walled blood vessel.
2) It brings blood from different parts of the body to the heart.
3) It contains simple valves which permit flow of blood to the heart.
4) All veins except pulmonary vein carry deoxygenated blood
5) It cannot dilate or constrict under normal conditions
