Hey !

              HUNSDIECKER'S REACTION

Bromoalkanes are obtained by this method by refluxing silver salts of fatty acids with Br₂ in CCl₄

  R ------COOAh + Br₂ --(CCl₄)--> R ---- Br + AgBr + CO₂

  CH₃CH₂COOAg + Br₂ --(CCl₄)--> CH₃CH₂BR + AgBr + CO₂

This method can be employed to decrease the number of carbon atoms.

Good luck !!
