Tidal areas and Delta regions have a special type of forest known as tidal forests and they are also called mangrove forest. some of these forests and dense and impenetrable .the trunks of these are supported by number of stilt roots which are under water during high tide .Mangrove trees have breathing roots . At low tide their roots can be see. Each tangled root system is a wonderful adaptations for survival in soft and shifting mud .They are found in an over continuous stretch along the edges of the deltas of the Ganga Mahanadi Godavari Brahmaputra Krishna and Kaveri and along the coast of Andaman Islands . in West Bengal they are called Sundari tree .it is as hard ,strong resistant to the water and is used for making boats .Gorjan and Hintal are other important trees..
