Dibru-Saikhowa and Orang National Parks and Pabitora wildlife Sanctuary are located in the riverine tracts. These forests have been rapidly reduced in size due to increase in human settlements in the riverine areas.

Characteristics of riverine vegetation are:-

i) The riverine tracts are very favourable for grasses and bushy vegetations like Nal, Khagori etc.

ii) The riverine forests are getting reduced in size rapidly due to the expansion of human settlements.

iii) A large part of Assam was covered by riverine forests.

iv) Riverine forests are dominated by some tall trees and grasses.
