Answer :
Endoplasmic Reticulum :-
- Endoplasmic reticulum are tubular structures found scattered in the cytoplasm.
- They are only found in eukaryotic cells.
- They divide the intracellular space into two different compartments that is luminal and extraluminal compartments.
- The luminal compartment is inside the endoplasmic reticulum whereas the extraluminal compartment is is the cytoplasm.
- Some of the endoplasmic reticulum is attached with ribosomes.
- The endoplasmic reticulum which has ribosomes on their surface are called as rough endoplasmic reticulum.
- If the ribosomes are not present on the surface of endoplasmic reticulum, they are said to be smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
- The rough endoplasmic reticulum synthesizes proteins and secretes them.
- The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is involved in the synthesis of lipids.
- The lipid like steroidal hormones found in animal cells are synthesized by smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
