Answer :

Endoplasmic Reticulum :-

  • Endoplasmic reticulum are tubular structures found scattered in the cytoplasm.
  • They are only found in eukaryotic cells.
  • They divide the intracellular space into two different compartments that is luminal and extraluminal compartments.
  • The luminal compartment is inside the endoplasmic reticulum whereas the extraluminal compartment is is the cytoplasm.
  • Some of the endoplasmic reticulum is attached with ribosomes.
  • The endoplasmic reticulum which has ribosomes on their surface are called as rough endoplasmic reticulum.
  • If the ribosomes are not present on the surface of endoplasmic reticulum, they are said to be smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
  • The rough endoplasmic reticulum synthesizes proteins and secretes them.
  • The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is involved in the synthesis of lipids.
  • The lipid like steroidal hormones found in animal cells are synthesized by smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
