In 1600 CE, the east india company acquired a charter from the ruler of England, Queen Elizabeth 1 , granting it the sole right to trade with the east . This is meant that no other trading group in England could compete with the east india company. With this charter, the company could venture across the oceans , looking for new lands from which it could buy goods at a cheap price , and carry them back to Europe to sell at higher prices.
The companies used their military advantage to increase their profits from trade. On many occasions, when they saw two Indian rulers fighting among themselves, they could take sides and get involved in the fight. They would lend their army one side to home them defeat their rivals. But in return the companies would demand and extract many trade concessions from the rulers . The rulers also gifted the companies large amounts of money in return for their military help. This money helped the companies increase their trade even more . The companies also began to acquire small parts of kingdoms as gifts from the local rulers. They would collect land tax from the villages and towns in these areas and use money for their trading activities. They also used this money for maintaining and improving their army .

in 1600 east india company acquired a charter from the ruler of england, queen elizabeth 1, granting it the sole right to trade with the east.this meant that no other english company could competete with east india company.
with this charter it could venture acroos the east oceans and find a land from where it could buy things at cheap price and when it comes back to europe then it will sell it at high price.when they came in india then they found that, already there were other european companies except england who were trading in india.because of this they were not able to get that profit which they wanted.howsoever the company made other companies to not to trade with india and it started trading.it made its factory in bengal and it started fortifying it.after sometime it got farman from aurangzeb to trade duty free.it also got the zamidari rights.aurangzeb's farman for instance had granted only the company the right to trade duty free but officials of the company who were carrying on private trade on the side, were expected to pay duty.this they refused to pay, causing an enormous loss of revenue for bengal.how could nawab of bengal, murshid quli khan not protest?because of this a battle took place between the nawab of bengal and the company in which the nawab of bengal was cheated by one of his member
and the company won.
the company kept on placing puppet ruler on the throne of bengal but they protested .at last the company itself took the throne.further the company fought more battles like the battle of buxar and anglomaratha war.the company rarely launched a direct military attacks on a territory.instead it used a variety of political, economic and diplomatic methods to extend its influence like the claim of paramountacy and the doctrine of lapse.and like this it captured the whole india.
