Artefacts from archeological sites, coins, monuments, inscriptions, travelogues and autobiographies are all primary sources of information. For modern history of India, primary sources of information include government reports, letters, photographs, maps, diaries, newspapers and films.

There are two types of sources of information for the modern history of India ——

1) Primary Sources: Include the original documents like photographs, autobiographies, diaries, and even monuments and artefacts. Many of these sources are restored in museums and archives.

2) Secondary sources: Include the interpretations by historians after studying the primary sources. Eg: Books written by Historians.
