Alfred Weber (1868 - 1958) was a German professor, whose work in the field of economy, geography and sociology are note-worthy. His work greatly influenced the development of modern Economic Geography.

In his Theory of Industrial Location, he states that 'an industry is located where transportation costs of raw materials and final product is a minimum'.

This theory of Alfred Weber is mostly based on work by Wilhelm Launhardt (1832 - 1918), a German mathematician and economist. Launhardt had worked on explaining the locational pattern of industries on a broad scale.
