The title 'dear departed' should mean that a very close has died which meant something and had a special place on everybody's hearts but as wE read in the drama the daugters of abel were not at all worried about the death of their father but only cared about his money and property. He was not dear to them but his property was. This is the satire of the play.
In 'The Dear Departed', we see that the author satirises mankind. Modern man is shown to be materialistic and inhuman. The plot of the story is how a selfish family members of a person suppose their father as dead and argue over division of property. They are more concerned about the material gains rather than mourning over the dead. Therefore, when they find out that Abel Merry Weather is not dead, the situation is very awkward and turns out to be humorous. Even by the end of the story the characters do not come to their senses and act greedily to own the property their father possessed. The story ends on a light note where Abel decides to re-marry and name te entire property in his wife's name.

♠ it is not at all proper and morally right for both the daughters not been concerned at their fathers death. they must think that they could not have been in the world without their fathers.
show they owe their lives to him.
♠secondly they must have mourned over their father's death but they Mourn only to show it off. they are more concerned about grabbing fathers things rather than doing their moral duties towards him on the occasion of his death.
⭐how terribly shocking is that they care materialist things and prepared a list of items to be shared between them.
for them father death, parents duties do not carry any value But Mere physical things. their being so is a taunt by the dramatist over the deteriorating relationship in the present time when social and familiar values are disintegrating.
☺ HOPE THIS HELPS YOU ✌✌
