In the Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom was struck by the work given to him by Aunt Polly.

EXPLANATION:

He had to Whitewash the fence. He had to do this boring work when he wants to go for fishing or swimming. On his way to swimming hole he saw Ben. He told him about the joy Ben is missing and what fun he is having in whitewashing. Ben out of curiosity asked Tom to let him paint the fence.

Ben on the first refused but then he agreed to Ben and let him whitewash the fence. All the other boys joined him and in this way he managed to convince other boys to work for him.

Answer:

Tom had to whitewash the fence, as Aunt Polly had punished him to do so. He had to do this boring work when he wanted to go for fishing or swimming instead. While he was whitewashing the fence, he saw Ben. He told Ben about the joy he had been missing and what fun he was having in whitewashing the old fence. Ben, out of curiosity, asked Tom to let him paint the fence. Tom at first refused to let him whitewash the fence but then agreed and let him do the "precious job". All the other boys joined him and in this way he managed to convince other boys to work for him.
