We know about the heating effect of current, when a current flows through an electric circuit due to collision between electrons and atoms of wire the heat is generated. How much heat is generated during current flowing through a wire and on what conditions and parameters does the heat generation depend? James Prescott Joule an english physicist, coined a formula which explains this phenomenon accurately. This is known as Joule's law.

The joule's first law shows the relationship between heat produced by a flowing electric current through a conductor. The amount of generatedheat is proportional to wire's electrical resistance when the current in the circuit and the flow of current is not changed.
