Starting from filling up the honey in the honeycombs to stinging humans, honeybees have always been an amazing creature. They belong to Hymenopterans, the insect order that contains a large variety of insects. Among these insects, bees are considered to be social because they live in colonies. They are important for agriculture because they are known to facilitate pollination. As a matter of fact, almost 1/3 of the food supply of the world comes from the pollination of bees. ‘Apis’ is the scientific name of Bees. A majority of the European bees come under ‘Apis Mellifera’ where ‘Mellifear’ means honey-bearing. The procedure to manage and breed honey bees to secure honey and beeswax is called beekeeping or apiculture. It is an old tradition that was introduced by hunters who were in search of sweet-tasting honey.
The life cycle of bees can be divided into 4 different stages.
