I think he was a good king
Ashoka ruled over India about 2000 years ago. He was a brave. He had inherited a huge Kingdom but Kalinga was still free. He wanted to conquer it and so went to war with it. Thousands of people were killed and wounded in the battle. Many women become widows and many children orphans. Kalinga was won. but the war changed Ashoka's heart. He became very sad. He took a vow not to fight any more. He became a follower of Lord Buddha and give up hunting even he won the hearts of people through love and affection.
