(i) This type of farming is carried out by tribal communities in India.

(ii) Cultivation largely, depends on monsoon rains for irrigation, natural fertility of soil.

(iii) They grow only sedentary crops like cereals and other crops for their bare sustenance.

(iv) Land productivity is quite low as farmers do not use fertilizer and other modern inputs. •

It is also known as shifting cultivation.

A small area of a forest is cleared out and cultivated till the nutrients are not enough in the soil to cultivate again.

Then they capture another land and burn down the trees and cultivate there.

Once that is done they then move back to the old land.
