Write Millikan rule to find the electronegativity of an element

Explanation:

Robert Mulliken, a chemical scientist established a new way of estimating electronegativity on the basis that elements which have large first ionization energies, have more negative electron affinities. Similarly on the other end, elements which have small first ionization energies have less negative  electron affinities

According to him, electron affinities in eV can be calculated as:

Χ = 0.187 (EI1+Eea) + 0.17

As per the Millikan rule, the electro-negativity of an element is dependent on the ionization energies of the elements.

Explanation:

  • If the ionization energy of the element is high, then the electron affinity for the elements will be also high which increase the property of the electro-negativity.
  • If the ionization energies of the elements are less, then the rate of electro-negativity will be also less which means that the capacity of the elements to acquire the electrons will be also less.
