Newton's first law or law of inertia states that
" If no external force acts on a body, then the body will remain in it's state of motion or rest"

Explanation- This means that the weight of a body exerts inertia which opposes the state of the body. Thus, without any external force, a body cannot change it's state. If it was in motion, it will remain in motion. If it was at rest, it will remain at rest.
