nationalist Congress party was formed in 1885 by A. O. Hume and is also called Congress Party. It came to power in center in 1947-77. After which BJP formed a coalition government for 3 years. Then the party came again in center in 1980-89. It espouses for secularism, welfare of weak and minority groups. In 2004 lok sabha elections, the party had largest number of members, ie. 145
