Answer:

Trisomy is a genetic disorder in which a person has three copies of a chromosome instead of two. A trisomy is a type of aneuploidy (an abnormal number of chromosomes). A person with a trisomy has 47 chromosomes instead of 46.

Some most common type of trisomy are-

  1. Down Syndrome (21)
  2. Edward Syndrome (18)
  3. Patau Syndrome (13)

The cause of this is unknown and prevention is not possible. The most important risk factor for trisomy conditions is maternal age. Women in their late 30s and 40s have a higher chance of trisomy conditions occurring.
