Tubectomy, commonly known as tubal sterilisation, is a long-term contraception procedure for women. It is a surgical procedure that prevents the egg produced by the ovary from reaching the uterus by blocking the fallopian tubes.

The fallopian tubes are cut, tied, or obstructed during tubal ligation to permanently prevent pregnancy. Tubal ligation prevents an egg from migrating from the ovaries to the fallopian tubes while also preventing sperm from travelling up the fallopian tubes to the egg.
