a virus is a small infectious agent that replicates only inside the living cells of other organisms. viruses can affect all types of life forms, from animals and plants to microorganisms, including bacteria archaea. a virus is made up of cells. viruses do not eat, do not not produce waste, nor they do many of the functions that other living things do. the only thing they can do is reproduce. viruses are mainly classified by phenotypic characteristics, such as morphology, nucleic acid type, mode of replication, host organisms, and the type of disease that cause.
