The evil practice of killing people in the name of cow vigilantism is a social cultural practice contradicting the secular ideal of the constitution.

Cow is the secret animal for the Hindus and all necessary steps must be taken to protect it from animal slaughter.

However the politically motivated movements of killing people in the name of cow vigilantism is unfair in a secular country like India.

In the recent past several cases of lynching and mob violence have taken place in the country which are unconstitutional.

Cow Vigilantism

EXPLANATION:

  • 'Cow-vigilante violence' includes a ' cow-protection ' mass-attack aimed primarily at illicit cow traders but, in some cases, also sanctioned cow-trading, has risen since 2013. In most states of India, cattle slaughter is prohibited. 'Cow vigilant' groups recently emerged claiming to protect cattle and causing many lives. 'Cow protectors' in an 'Indian state' that banned cow slaughter are seen as preventing theft, defending the cow or upholding the law.
  • Reuters reported that between '2010 and mid-2017', a total of '63 cow vigilante' attacks took place in India, mainly since 2014, when the government of Modi came to power. "28 Indians–24 of them Muslims–have been killed and '124 have been wounded' in such attacks between '2010 and June 2017'.
  • Since the 2014 election of the 'Bharatiya Janata Party' (BJP) as 'central Indian government', the number of cow surveillance incidents has increased as stated by the 'Human Rights Commission'. The recent surge is attributed to the rise of Hindu nationalist movements in India. 'Several vigilante groups' claim to be "empowered," because of the victory of the 'Hindu nationalist BJP' in the 2014 election. Hence, the frequency and intensity of cow vigilante violence has been defined as "unprecedented."
