Explanation:

There are many different types of information resources, including: websites, encyclopedias, YouTube, people, books, databases, newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, etc. So which information resource is best?

The answer is there is not one information resource that is always going to be the best. There are pro's and con's with different information resources and which resource is "best" will vary depending on what information you are looking for.

However the key thing is that when you are doing research, eg for an Inquiry, you should use a variety of reliable information resources.

Find out more about the different characteristics of four of the most common information resources, Encyclopedias, Websites, Books and Articles:

1. Encyclopedias

Encyclopedias are an excellent place to start your research because:

they provide a good introduction or concise summary of a wide range of subjects.

encyclopedias like Britannica or Te Ara, are written by experts and the information is checked before being published so they are a trustworthy and accurate source of information.

Online Encyclopedia Britannica - Middle School version, has been written especially for Intermediate age school students, so it is neither too hard to understand nor too simple!

Wikipedia covers a huge range of subjects, but as anybody can add or change Wikipedia entries you should verify the information is accurate by checking against other information resources.

Wikipedia articles are often written for adults, rather than children, so they can use technical or specialized language that can be difficult for school students to understand.
