No Man is a Judge of his Own Merits

The most quoted and followed advice of Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita is "Maha Phaleshu Kadachana". This means we must do our work but never the fruits it will bear. He emphasizes the fact that we have to work for work's sake only. We must never expect results from it. Selfless work and detached attachment is the key to living.

Thus when we do anything how can we be our own judge of our merits?

For example, a student is very good at Maths. How can he judge his talent and claim himself to be a great Mathematician? There may be thousands better than him.

It is up to others to judge us. We can never judge ourselves. Thus we have to do us but, work with dedication, and definitely employ our merits. But the result will be judged by others. They will determine whether our work has been appreciable and worthy.
