Complete combustion takes place in the presence of a sufficient amount of oxygen while an incomplete combustion reaction takes place when there is an insufficient amount of oxygen supply.

blue flame colour means complete combustion. This indicates that the gas is being burned efficiently without any unburned and wasted gas

Incomplete combustion gives a yellow flame and so less energy is released.
