The main character of this poem is a turtle. It explains that even though she only swim and the pond is her world she can see everything around it with her eyes like children playing etc.

Explanation:

  • This is how she enjoys her life. She sees the world change. She observes the children grow every day.

  • Mary Oliver wrote this exceptional poem called 'The Turtle'

Answer:

Mary Oliver uses the word "swim" instead of "fly" to show that the turtle sees everything as part of her world, including the birds in the air. The turtle feels connected to the birds and sees them as swimming in her pond.
