I lived in a small mud house near the banks of the river Ganges with my mother, father and my little sister Rimi. Father did odd jobs in the nearby villages, I usually accompanied him. Mother and Rimi made buckets of straw to sell in the town. Somehow our lives went by with the earning we made as a family.
One day father went to the village and left me in charge of the house. It was supposed to rain that evening. Although it was not unusual in the season, however, something seemed different that day. The sky had turned into an ominous shade of black by the afternoon. What made me even more worried was the silent roars of the river. I hurried home and asked my mother to pack everything since the situation did not look very well.
The rain had started to pour heavily. The river had overflowed the banks and was entering the lands above. Our house became flooded. The situation had become extremely dangerous. Rimi tugged onto my waist as mother and I struggles our way out along with the luggage.
Luckily a boat from the nearby village had been going around to pick up survivors, we barely made it on board. As we sailed from there, we witnessed our house being torn into pieces. Something felt heavy in my heart. However, I was glad we were all safe. After three days, we were reunited with father who came back hearing the terrible news
