Mahatama Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. He was known as the ‘Father of the Nation His original name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. His mother, Putlibai, was a very religious lady and used to tell him stories from the scriptures and mythology. Little Gandhi grew up to be an honest and a decent student. At the age of 13 he was married to Kasturba. At 19, he was sent to England to study Law. In 1893 he went to South Africa .There he fought against injustice. Gandhiji could not tolerate the oppression of the Indians by the whites. So he stayed there and fought through peaceful, non-violent methods. In 1914, Gandhiji returned to India. He travelled throughout the country. He fought against the Britishers through peaceful methods. His policies forced the Britishers to leave the country. On 30th January 1948, he was shot dead by a communalist.
