About the poem/poet and the title:
The poem' the inchcape Rock' written by a British poet Robert Southey. The poem is about some treacherous rocks near the coast of Scotland. The title of the poem is very suitable because the rock is a focal point of the whole poem.
The theme:
The central theme of the poem runs around the proverb ' As you sow, so shall you reap'. It is about the evil feeling of jealousy. The great work done by an Abbot for the sailors that save the sailors. He put the inchcape Bell on a bouy to warn ships during storms. But Ralph other character in the poem is an example of jealousy that he doesn't like the Abbot blessed by the sailors and wants to touble him. So he cut the Bell. At the end of the poem he himself falls in the pit dig by himself. When he sails towards the Scotland the weather changes and due to the stormy sea he can't see the secure place or coast to land. And at last he hears the sound of the ringing the knell.
Poetic style:
The poem is a ballad type. The story of good and evil is told in the poetic style. There are four lines in each stanza. It has aabb rhyme schem. There are total sixteen stanzas. There are some archaic words used in the poem, such as quoth, canst, blest etc.
The language/ poetic devices used in the poem:
The language of the poem is easy to understand for the readers. The poem begins with metaphor of pleasant mood with calm Sea. The poem consists of different figures of speech such as repetition, alliteration, onomatopoeia, apostrophe, inversion etc.
Special features:
The special feature of the poem is,it is didactic one. It teaches the moral of being a human/kind for all human being. And the evil always results in evil/ sad end.
Message: when we try to trouble others, trouble first comes the doer.
Opinion:
In my opinion the poem is the best moral for all the human being. It is applicable for the current society to stop crimes and evil deeds.
