Write poetic devices of poem cross patch
Answers
Answer:
Cross Patch, draw the latch
Sit by the fire and spin
Take a cup and drink it up
Then call the neighbours in
Cross Patch drew the latch
And sat beside the fire
He took his shovel from the grate
And piled the coals up higher
"Call the neighbours in? Not I!"
He mumbled in dismay
"I will not share my heat with them
They'd better stay away!"
I bought this coal, it's mine, not theirs
It cost a pretty penny!
Let them buy coal for themselves
I will not give them any!"
He watched the fire for a while
Then gave a little shout
"That smoke is mine as well" he cried
"And look, it's getting out!"
"I will not share my smoke", he said
"With those who do not pay!
My money buys things for myself
Not things to give away"
He then blocked up his chimney pot
So's not to share his smoke
But very soon the room filled up -
Cross Patch began to choke"
"Oh help me someone!" Cross Patch called
"Will no one give me aid?
I know I've been a selfish fool
But I am so afraid!"
"What's that? What's that?" his neighbour called
A-coming to his gate
"You would not share your fire with me,
Why should I share your fate?"
The neighbour, Mr Postlethwaite,
Knocked down Cross Patch's door,
He grabbed old Cross Patch by the leg
And dragged him 'cross the floor
"Now here's a thing" cried Postlethwaite
That everyone can share,
Belonging both to all and none,
The gift of sweet fresh air!"
"Dear Postlethwaite!" cried Cross Patch then
"You really saved my life!
I'll gladly share each thing I have
With you and your dear wife!"
"Ne need for that" said Postlethwaite
And wiped his fingers clean
"I think we'd just be happy
If you'd be a bit less mean!"
And from that day right up to this
With anything he gets
Old Cross Patch keeps just what he needs
And gives away the rest
He tries to give his neighbours
Any thing he knows they lack
And treasures all the love and smiles
His neighbours give him back
