The 2019 Lok Sabha elections have begun today with voting for the first of seven phases. As part of the general election, voting is being held in 91 Lok Sabha seats in 20 states and Union territories. Besides this, people in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are voting for their assembly elections. BJP leader Smriti Irani filed her nomination from Amethi Lok Sabha seat and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination from Raebareli seat. A total of 1,279 candidates are in the fray in the first phase of the general election. At 1 pm, the voter turnout in Uttarakhand stood at 41.27% and 38.78% in Uttar Pradesh.
