plant cell has only one large vacuole that covers almost 90% cellular space sometimes. Plant cells needs larger vacuole because vacuole helps them to maintain turgor pressure within the cell. Vacuoles store water and become turgid when water enters the cell through osmosis. When cell loses water vacuoles helps the cell to retain the shape. Vacuoles also maintain the osmotic concentration within the cell.
