The COPRA is the abbreviation for the Consumers Protection Act. Passed by the Parliament of India in the year 1986, this law came into force on July 1 1987. This was the initial step taken by the government to protect the consumer from illegal producers and corrupt traders. This bill was applied to all the producers of goods and services unless it especially exempted by the Central government. This act was implemented for all the sectors such as private, public or cooperative. Prerequisites of the Bill are compensatory in character. There are many other provisions under this act for the protection of the consumer. Thus, it may be said that the COPRA has come as a safeguard for the consumers.
