Generally speaking, evolution is change which happens over a long period of time. In other words,you,I and everyone around us is a result of zillions of years of chemical interaction and biological sustainence. We're still work in progress.

Now why is there a need for us to change?

  • In terms of survival advantage, evolution becomes important when our body design becomes outdated. While this happens gradually,there can be rapid changes too.

  • During the times of a calamity, mutation is a common phenomena seen in the gene pool which is a rapid change.

To sum it up in few words,

\sf{Importance \ of \ evolution} \begin{cases} \sf{Increases \ chances \ of \ survival} \\ \sf{Variations \ in \ gene \ pool} \end{cases}

Now how does evolution operate on organisms?

  • As stated earlier,the change is rather very slow,making it hard for human observations. Nevertheless,we're able to track down the evolutionary links through fossils, footprints and corpolites.

  • For instance,our ancestors were tetrapedals while we are bipedal. Bipedalism enables us to make use of our forelimbs leading to more efficiency in hunting, gathering and so on.

Albeit all the process we have made till now,we're still evolving. For instance,new shades of eye colour are appearing in the gene pool.
