Write short note on:
Explain the function of wind with example
Answers
Answer:
Wind is the natural movement of air or other gases relative to a planet's surface. Wind occurs on a range of scales, from thunderstorm flows lasting tens of minutes, to local breezes generated by heating of land surfaces and lasting a few hours, to global winds resulting from the difference in absorption of solar energy between the climate zones on Earth. The two main causes of large-scale atmospheric circulation are the differential heating between the equator and the poles, and the rotation of the planet (Coriolis effect). Within the tropics and subtropics, thermal low circulations over terrain and high plateaus can drive monsoon circulations. In coastal areas the sea breeze/land breeze cycle can define local winds; in areas that have variable terrain, mountain and valley breezes can prevail.

Explain the function of wind with example
ANSWER
If air moves slowly it is called a breeze. If it moves faster it is called wind. Very strong and fast winds are called storms.
THE FUNCTION OF WIND WITH EXAMPLE ARE:-
- The wind can move things.
- Example:- It moves the fan on a windmill to make it work.
- The wind can produce electricity.
- Example:- A windmill can pump water or make electricity.
- The wind helps to make water vapour more quickly.
- Example:- Wet two hankies. Put one in a room where the fan is on. Put the other where the fan is off. What happens? The hanky in a room where the fan was on dry faster due to a fast rate of evaporation.
- The wind helps plants in the dispersion of seeds
- Example:- The wind carries small seeds to new places. So plants grow in new, far-off places.
- The wind helps to cool things.
- Example:- Make two bowls of hot water. Keep one in a room where the fan is on and the other in a room with the fan off. Touch the water in both bowls after some time. What do you feel? The hot water in a room where the fan was on will cool faster.
- Winds blow from one place to another. You can know the direction of the wind by looking at a wind vane or a wind sock.
- Example:- If birds and planes fly in the direction of the wind they find it easier to fly.
