the period of first generation was from 1946 - 1959. the computer of first generation used vaccum tubes as the basic components for memory and circuitry for CPU . these tubes like electronic bulbs , produced a lot of heat and the installation used to fuse frequently.

                     It uses the technology called Vaccum Tube.The operating speed of it was in terms of milliseconds range. The primary memory which is used in it is Magnetic core memory and secondary memory are :- electrostatic tube(internal) , paper tape , punch card ,magnetic tape. Punch card , printing device were used for input / output operations and store the result. The computer used to be much expensive at this generation.
